Elizabeth Bennett is my most favorite Jane Austen’s heroine. Her love for books and solitary walks is dangerously similar to mine. I can’t help but to adore her ways of thinking, her witty remarks, her impeccable confidence, and her vulnerability.

Most girls would even fall for Mr. Darcy’s frowns, but for his smile? Taunting.

When in doubt, Elizabeth would seek answers on her own. She never came off as a burden and that’s what I admire from Jane Austen’s depiction of a strong woman.

When engulfed by her own pride and prejudices, she’d stand her ground. But when they were proved wrong, she’d admit her heart. Her bravery to stop rearranging her prejudices is another thing I love about her.

I am so in love with Pride and Prejudice. Not only do I love the intricacies of the story or the beautiful sceneries or the swift dialogue spoken by attractive gentlemen, but I am very much aware that this movie, and anything in it, reflects Jane Austen’s brilliance. The strength of the character’s personality indicates how Jane Austen had observing eyes, attentive ears, wise understanding, and gift in story-telling.

Anyone who claims themselves as an art lover and people person, must take time to read the book and watch the movie. :)

Sam: You laugh, you know? I’m not saying I don’t cry. But in between, I laugh. And I realise how silly it is to take anything too seriously. Plus, I look forward to a good cry. It feels pretty good.

I’m going to base this moment on who I’m stuck in a room with. It’s what life is. It’s a series of rooms and who we get stuck in those rooms with adds up to what our lives are.

Freedom Writers (2007) is what inspired me to keep being a good teacher, both inside and outside classrooms.

  • Erin Gruwell: The evaluation assignment was to grade yourself on the work you're doing. You gave yourself an F. What's that about?
  • Andre: It's what I feel I deserve, that's all.
  • Erin Gruwell: Oh really?
  • Andre: [silence]
  • Erin Gruwell: You know what this is? This is a Fuck You to me and everyone in this class. I don't want excuses. I know what you're up against. We're all of us up against something. So you better make up your mind, because until you have the balls to look me straight in the eye and tell me this is all you deserve, I am not letting you fail. Even if that means coming to your house every night until you finish the work. I see who you are. Do you understand me? I can see you. And you are not failing.

To me, this is one of the most celebrated scene. It’s not because it has colossal quality of high technology depiction or the prettiest actress or the hottest alpha male character. It’s just one of those scenes that I can’t forget. Ever. And it’s the kind of scene that reminds me how I love movies so much, and the reasons why they are made in the first place. Not for money, but for a much greater cause.

Watch it, and leave me a comment. I’d like to know what you think. Okay?

Oskar Schindler: Power is when we have every justification to kill, and we don’t. Amon Goeth: You think that’s power? Oskar Schindler: That’s what the Emperor said. A man steals something, he’s brought in before the Emperor, he throws himself down on the ground. He begs for his life, he knows he’s going to die. And the Emperor… pardons him. This worthless man, he lets him go. Amon Goeth: I think you are drunk. Oskar Schindler: That’s power, Amon. That is power.
This quote is taken from a movie called Schindler’s List. Schindler’s List is a movie about a named called Oskar Schindler. Schindler, a Nazi war profiteer and womanizer, upon witnessing increasing violence and killing of Jews in Nazi-occupied Poland, undergoes a slow transformation, becoming a compassionate man obsessed with saving the lives of the Jewish workers in his factory. As Schindler witnesses the evacuation of the Krakow ghetto, he sees a little girl in a red coat. The image and the violence he witnesses moves him so deeply that his humanity is awakened, and he realizes he must do something to help. Schindler realizes his factory is a haven for Jews and begins actively to give Stern expensive goods to use as bribes to bring more Jews into his factory, where he can keep them at least somewhat safe. He loses his wealth gradually until he is really broke, in his effort to save his Jews.
There are fewer than 4000 Jews left alive in Poland today.
There are more than 6000 descendants of the Schindler Jews.

Courage is a hard thing to figure. You can have courage based on a dumb idea or mistake, but you’re not supposed to question adults, or your coach or your teacher, because they make the rules. Maybe they know best, but maybe they don’t. It all depends on who you are, where you come from. That’s why courage it’s tricky. Should you always do what others tell you to do? Sometimes you might not even know why you’re doing something. I mean any fool can have courage. But honor, that’s the real reason for you either do something or you don’t. It’s who you are and maybe who you want to be. If you die trying for something important, then you have both honor and courage, and that’s pretty good. I think that’s what the writer was saying, that you should hope for courage and try for honor. And maybe even pray that the people telling you what to do have some, too.

Margaret Trust me, you don’t really want to be with me. See there is a reason why I’ve been alone all this time. I’m comfortable that way. And I think it would just be a lot easier if we forgot everything that happened and I just left.
Andrew You’re right, that would be easier.
Margaret I’m scared.
Andrew Me too.
